Does anyone know how a boat going down the lake suddenly makes shad an easy meal? Is the prop cutting the shad or is the turbulence causing the shad to become disoriented? That's the only two explanations I can think of....

I have found this happens most often when the lake gets muddy. The Threads will hang right on the surface and get slashed by a passing boat. We used to drive around on Sinclair (typically very muddy in the winter), and "whooop" at the birds following the boat when we were kids. I listened to them once on Watts Bar in TN when I couldn't find any bait anywhere but noticed them chasing boats. Went out and threw the net in the middle of the channel and was catching 5-10 baits per toss. Cool

Great topic! Exclamation

I've noticed a passing boat can cause the fish to start feeding at the surface sometimes too... Sometimes the boat wake against a rock wall, jetty, or bank will flush the bait fish out from hiding and turn the fish on...
